Why are these people held up so high?

What is our problem, and by "our" I am talking about the American public? Why do we constantly take "so called" celebrities and raise them on such a high pedestal? These are just people who have made it in a certain field because of some special talent. We seem to forget that they are just people, regular old people who scratch their asses just like the rest of us.

Why are we surprised when a rock/rap star is arrested for being drunk, or an athlete gets caught using illegal drugs?

Why is it shocking when movie stars jump into bed with their co-stars, get married, and then all of a sudden get divorced?

Now it seems that so called profession Astronauts are getting into the picture. The only reason I even speak about this story is because I can't believe the amount of time it is getting on cable news shows. A psychotic woman, who happens to be an Astronaut, travels 900 miles to do "something" to a woman that may be her rival for the same man. Had this been a waitress no one who have cared, no one would have asked what we could do for the stress level of waitresses.
However, now we have to question how NASA handles things, and should we now change the way it operates. Yet no one mentions that she seems to be the only one who has gone over the deep end.

We have to stop our obsession with all these people. It is ok to have your favorites in every field, but please get a grip. These are just people, PEOPLE, and nothing else. They will faultier, and they will fail, but regardless of how it happens the world will go on.
